On April 17, 2025, a delegation from Indonesia’s IPB University paid a visit to Tohoku University. The delegation was led by IPB Rector Arif Satria and was joined by His Excellency Mr. Akhmadi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia. They met with President Teiji Tominaga, Executive Vice President Toshiya Ueki, and the dean of the Graduate School of Agricultural Science and Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Haruki Kitazawa.
In his opening remarks, President Tominaga spoke about the collaborative relationship between Tohoku University and IPB University, especially in the field of agriculture. The president shared his hope for deeper and more expansive collaborations in the field of agriculture, as well as more varied exchanges in fields such as medicine.
Following President Tominaga, Rector Satria expressed his gratitude for the fruitful collaborative relationship between IPB and Tohoku University. He shared his congratulations for the recent recognition Tohoku University has gained domestically and internationally as Japan’s first University for International Research Excellence. He went on to emphasize the urgent need for innovation in Indonesia, particularly related to improving the quality of agricultural products and increasing exports. He noted his intention to promote joint research between the two institutions and his desire to send more students to Tohoku University to achieve this goal.
Thereafter, Ambassador Akhmadi expressed his gratitude for the history of collaboration between the IPB and Tohoku University. He noted the high demand within Indonesia for opportunities to study in Japan and expressed great hopes for further exchanges and the development of cooperative relations within the field of education and beyond.
At the event, the university leaders renewed the institutions’ academic exchange agreement and also concluded an MOU for a Jointly Supervised Degree Program.
The renewal of the academic exchange agreement and the conclusion of the new joint degree program are expected to strengthen collaboration in education and research between the two universities.
